Colwill, Livingston Claim Individual National Titles

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 4 FOR the second night in a row, Chris Colwill won an individual national title, this time taking the men's three-meter crown Friday at the 2006 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships.

Jessica Livingston picked up the women's 10-meter title, and Troy Dumais and Mitch Richeson won the men's three-meter synchro title. Cassandra Cardinell and Christina Loukas claimed gold on 10-meter synchro.

Colwill, who won the one-meter gold on Thursday, won his second 2006 national title with 464.75 points in the 3-meter, finishing ahead of a pair of 2004 Olympians. Dumais took the silver with 441.90 points, and Justin Wilcock won the bronze at 424.95. Dumais, the three-time defending champion, led through four rounds but scored just 47.25 points on his fifth dive, allowing Colwill to take the lead with one round to go. Colwill followed up with his best score of the night, earning 87.50 points on his reverse three-and-one-half, the same dive Dumais missed.

Livingston won the women's platform title with 355.75 points to earn her first individual national championship after winning gold in 10-meter synchro in 2005 with Laura Wilkinson, the four-time defending individual champion who sat out this year's championship due to injury. Haley Ishimatsu moved up from fourth to second on her final dive to win silver with 343.85, narrowly edging out Cassandra Cardinell, who scored 343.00 points for bronze.

Dumais and Richeson, who won the World Cup silver medal in 3-meter synchro last month, scored 405.45 points for the national title. Wilcock and Colwill, making their competitive debut as a synchro team, took silver with 360.78 points, and David Boudia and Thomas Finchum scored 344.82 points for bronze.

Cardinell and Loukas scored 275.76 for the 10-meter synchro gold, and their Indiana Diving teammates Heather Chapman and Lindsay Weigle won silver with 267.03. Kirsty Shepler and Allison Barr scored 212.28 for bronze.

The Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships continue through Saturday, August 5.
