Colorado State Women Defeat BYU

PROVO, Utah, January 18. THE Colorado State women's swimming and diving team defeated Brigham Young by a score of 191-109 in Provo, Utah on Saturday evening.

The Rams won the meet by winning the close races. Colorado State won seven races by less than one second. The 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 freestyle relay were all Colorado State victories with under one second separating the top two places.

Senior Lori Vigil won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. She is the first Ram to sweep both boards in a dual meet with Brigham Young.

The Cougars hadn't competed since November at the Speedo Cup, and coach Stan Crump said his swimmers were a little rusty. Crump also said the meet was a lot closer than the final score indicated as BYU lost a lot of close races.

"If we win half of the close races, we're right in there," Crump said. "And that's not taking anything away from Colorado State. They're a great team."

Two Cougars won their races, Nikki Xanthos (100 breast) and Brittany Davis (500 free).

Colorado State won all but two events on the evening. The Rams are now 4-0 in Mountain West Conference dual meets this season.
