College Recruit Rankings Profile: Five-Star Katie Johnson, Class of 2009

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 16. THE next swimmer in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings Profile series is Katie Johnson. Johnson is a five-star breaststroker in the Class of 2009 who swims for North Jeffco Swim Team and Ralston Valley High.

Johnson, who keeps her profile in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings powered by Take Your Marks updated on a regular basis, owns a pair of times that clear the U.S. Olympic Trials cut (an integral part of the rankings system) in the women's 200-meter breaststroke (2:33.26) and 400-meter IM (4:55.42).

Johnson also has an NCAA Division I B cut time of 2:17.80 in the 200-yard breaststroke event.

Where and when did you start swimming?
I started swimming on North Jeffco Swim Team when I was 7 years old.

Who would you name as the most influential person and coach in your swimming career?
Most Influential Person would be my mom, Beth and most influential coach would be my current coach Brett Stoyell

What, to this point, is your best moment in the sport and why?
My best moment in my swimming career would be qualifying for Olympic Trials, because it was just so exciting and a great honor to be able to swim with the best!

Walk us through a day of practice:
A day of practice usually consists of a warm-up then a mini set, followed by a main set and kick set, and finally finishing with a cool down.

What is your favorite set?
My favorite would have to be any set that involves IM.

What is your least favorite set?
My least favorite set is any set that involves a distance over a 500.

What are your short-term goals?
My short term goals are to just have a better season then last year in order to set me up better for college next year.

What are your long-term goals?
My long term goals are to definitely compete at the 2012 Olympic Trials, and hopefully go further.

What colleges are you interested in so far?
The main colleges I'm looking at, in no particular order, are Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Virginia, and Duke.

How is the recruiting process going?
The recruiting process is very exciting I am having so much fun, but at times it is stressful.

Is there anything else that you'd like our readers to know about you?
I love to shop and hang out with friends in my spare time.
