College Recruit Rankings Profile: Five-Star Carlos Omana, Class of 2011

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 27. CARLOS Omana, a five-star recruit from the class of 2011, is the next subject in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings Profiles series. Omana lives in Miami, Fla., and swims for Metro Aquatic Club of Miami while prepping for four-time defending state champion Belen Jesuit. Kirk Peppas is the coach of both squads.
Omana owns senior national cuts in the 400m (3:59.45), 800m (8:18.06), and 1500m (15:50.35) free, the 200y (1:49.75) and 400m (4:27.95) IM. Omana is coming off a successful meet at the Charlotte UltraSwim in which he finished fourth in the 400 freestyle, third in the 400 IM, and eighth in the 400 medley relay.

What is your favorite set?
1000 Freestyle, 10 x 100's at mile pace or 12 x 400 IM's
What is your least favorite set?
6 x 800's Freestyle
Where are you thinking about going to college?
There are many great schools out there, and I will look all of them to see what combination of athletics and academics fit me best. Top 10 swimming ranked schools will draw my interest first, followed by the rest.
What is your favorite swimming related memory?
Making it to the 2009 World Championships Trials, because I was able to see all the Olympians from Beijing and it was an awesome experience

Ryan Lochte and Aaron Peirsol
What do you consider to be your breakthrough moment in swimming?
The day when I made my first U.S. Open Cut
What is your daily schedule with school and practice?
4: 00 am Wake up for practice (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday)
4:45 am Practice starts
6:30 am Practice ends
7:00 am Go to School
3:00 pm Get out of school
3:20 pm Practice starts
5:40 pm Practice ends
6:15 pm Gym (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday)
7:00 pm Going Home
8:00 pm Homework
What are your long and short term goals?
My short term goal is scoring at the 2010 US Open in Irvine, California
My long term goals are to possibly make it to the 2011 World Championships and 2012 Olympic Games
What is something that people wouldn't know about you?
I am a very laid back person. I do not like stress, I always just try to remain calm and do everything that I have to get done
What's your favorite thing about living in Florida?
Living in Miami, Fla., is absolutely amazing. The weather during the summer is perfect for going to the beach whenever I don't have practice. It also, during the winter, does not get too cold which is very beneficial because I swim outdoors, and we get a break from the heat.
