NEW COMMIT: Fresno, Calif. native Austin Lane has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Pittsburgh beginning in the fall of 2021.

He is the Panthers’ first addition to their class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I began my college search in pursuit of a place that would surround me with the resources I would need to be the most prosperous student athlete I could be, and am proud to say I have finished it with so much more. The University of Pittsburgh provides me a family of teammates, staff, and coaches that will not just make me a great swimmer and student, but a greater man. I can confidently say that Pitt will be nothing short of a place I can call home, and will make my time at the university an experience I will be able to positively draw from throughout the entirety of my adult life. My announcement is more than a commitment to Pitt, it is a commitment to excellence, and excellence I hope to build upon alongside my new family. #Hail2Pitt #gettingbettereveryday”

Lane does his club swimming with Fresno Dolphins Swim Team and owns a U.S. Open cut with three additional Junior National standards. He placed 10th in the 100 back and raced to 11th in the 200 back at Juniors West in December. Last summer, he finished 12th in the 200m back and 15th in the 100m back at Santa Clarita Sectionals before going on to race three events at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.83
  • 100 back – 48.33
  • 200 back – 1:46.39
  • 50 fly – 22.55
  • 100 fly – 49.06

Also competing for Clovis West High School, Lane placed seventh in the 100 back at the CIF State Championships as a freshman and took 11th in that event as a sophomore. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is also a four-time CIF Central Section Championship finalist, winning the 100 back and taking bronze in the 100 fly in both 2018 and 2019.
