CIF North Coast Sectional Championships

CONCORD, California, May 24. THE CIF North Coast Sectional Championships produced a national record as well as a few sectional marks.

In the team title race, Campolindo won the boys title with 265 points. Monte Vista (Danville) finished second with 210 points, while De La Salle (173), Amador Valley (158) and Miramonte (151) completed the top five.

Carondelet earned the girls crown with 262.50 points. San Ramon Valley placed second with 235 points, while Campolindo finished third with 200 points. Las Lomas (179) and Monte Vista (Danville) (161) grabbed fourth and fifth.

Girls Results
As previously reported, Carondelet's Madison White, Allison Gargalikis, Christina Ray and Chelsea Chenault posted a swift time of 1:40.80 in the 200 medley relay. That swim beat the overall national high school record of 1:41.63 set by The Baylor School last year. Carondelet's Deirdre Clute, Christy Tormey, White and Chenault also won the 400 free relay in 3:26.65.

Chenault, just a freshman, enjoyed a strong overall meet. On top of helping Carondelet to a national record, she posted a sectional mark of 4:43.43 in the 500 free. That time beat the 4:44.50 set by Sarah Anderson way back in 1993. Chenault also topped the 200 free in 1:45.87

Maria Carillo's Maya DiRado clocked a blazing time of 1:56.17 in the 200 IM. That effort wiped out the sectional record 1:57.08 she set last year. DiRado followed with a 49.82 in the 100 free for her second victory.

Kasey Carlson, swimming for Las Lomas in her final high school meet, captured the 50 free in 22.70. She later turned in another sub-1:00 time in the 100 breast with a 59.52 for the win. She still owns the national high school record with a 58.75 from last year.

San Ramon Valley's Marissa Neel won the 100 fly in 53.60, while Redwood's Deborah Roth topped the 100 back in 53.33.

Las Lomas' Kelsey Leonard, Jaclyn Amog, Taylor Carlson and Kasey Carlson won the 200 free relay in 1:34.95.

In diving action, San Ramon Valley's Katja Pidel won the one-meter with 384.20 points.

Boys Results
Campolindo's Sven Campbell, Steven Stumph, Jeffrey Strausser and Nick Zolintakis won the 200 medley relay in 1:34.42. Campolindo's Robert Ashby, Campbell, Brian Sanders and Stephen Kingery also went on to win the 400 free relay in 3:08.54. Stumph, a freshman, also claimed the 200 IM in 1:52.84.

Las Lomas' Greg Harper won the 200 free in 1:39.40. He doubled up with a 4:28.74 in the 500 free. Healdsburg's Ben Whitenack also doubled with wins in the 100 free (45.44) and 100 back (50.91).

Terra Linda's Trent Williams captured the 50 free in 20.71, while Acalanes' Piankhi Gibson touched first in the 100 fly with a 49.50. Miramonte's Charlie Wiser won the 100 breast in 56.60.

Monte Vista's Spencer Peugh, Michael Harris, Patrick Scott and Ted Beebe won a close contest in the 200 free relay with a 1:25.09.

Diving prodigy Kristian Ipsen of De La Salle topped the one-meter with an astonishing 685.55 points, just short of his sectional record of 699.60 points from a year ago.
