Chinese Dominate Day One of FINA Diving World Cup

CHANGSHU, China, July 19. THE Chinese contingent dominated the first day of competition at the 15th-annual FINA Diving World Cup in Changshu, China on Wednesday. Overall, the Chinese swept the gold and silver medals in the men’s and women’s one-meter events.

For the men, He Chong of China dove to gold with a 505.65, while countryman Luo Yutong claimed silver with a 445.55. Chris Colwill snared the United States’ first medal of the meet with a third-place 423.85.

Additionally, Japan’s Ken Terauchi finished fourth with a 393.85, while Germany’s Sascha Klein grabbed fifth with a 390.90. Australia’s Matthew Mitcham earned sixth with a 372.70.

In the women’s final, China’s Guo Jingjing rolled to victory with a 323.70, while her teammate Wu Minxia held off Canada’s Blythe Hartley 301.10-300.25 for silver.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Sharleen Stratton placed fourth with a 294.25, while Germany’s Ditte Kotzian took fifth with a 292.05. Japan’s Ryoko Nishii rounded out finals with a sixth-place 277.20.

Next up, divers compete in the men’s three-meter and the women’s 10-meter events on Thursday.
