China’s Shi Tingmao is walking away from women’s individual three meter with a gold medal, China’s fourth diving gold from Rio. Her teammate He Zi followed her by twenty points, coming in second place.

He Zi is also coming away from the event with an engagement ring! Her boyfriend, and fellow diver Qin Kai, proposed to her on the pool deck just after she was awarded her silver medal. Qin earned his own bronze medal earlier in men’s synchronized springboard.

Tania Cagnotto of Italy took home the bronze medal. Her last dive pushed her just into medaling position over Canada’s Jennifer Abel who came in fourth.

American Abby Johnston finished in twelfth place, not what she hoped for, but she is proud of the way she performed and how she’s finishing her career.

Johnston: “I start school nine days form now, and I’ll be doing my clinical rotations and planning a wedding. I feel like I have a lot to look forward to, and I’m happy to close this chapter in my life.”

Diving will continue tomorrow with the men’s springboard preliminaries.
