Chase Kalisz Cruises In 200 IM Heats

Chase Kalisz of Georgia qualified fastest for the 200 IM heats at the Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine with his 1:57.12 on Sunday morning. Kalisz moved to sixth in the world rankings with his swim and he should move up even more tonight to challenge the top spot of 1:56.37 by Japan’s Kosuke Hagino. Kalisz is already on the Pan Pac team for his win in the 400 IM on Friday night.

Kalisz is ahead of 2017 World Championship Team member Abrahm DeVine (1:58.72) and Jay Litherland (1:58.97) who is already on the team. DeVine has yet to make the Pan Pac team and this is his last shot.

Andrew Seliskar (1:59.24) and Josh Prenot (1:59.55) are already on the Pan Pac team and they advanced to the final with the fourth and seventh fastest times respectively.

Gunnar Bentz (1:59.28), Sam Stewart (1:59.52) and John Shebat (1:59.58) also qualified for the A-Final tonight.

In ninth place, Carson Foster broke the 15-16 NAG record in the 200 IM with his time of 1:59.71, breaking the old record held by Seliskar at 1:59.84. Foster is the third 15-16 to break two minutes in the event after Seliskar and Michael Andrew.
