NEW COMMIT: Backstroker and IMer Catherine Christuk of Peabody, Mass. has announced her verbal commitment to Providence College for the fall of 2019.

Christuk does her club swimming under head coach Janet Hardy at YMCA of the North Shore. She recorded best times in all three backstroke distances at Jenks Speedo Sectionals this summer and faced five events at YMCA Nationals in April. She was also a four-time NE Senior Championship finalist last winter.

Representing Bishop Fenwick High School, Christuk finished fifth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 fly at the Massachusetts State Championships as a sophomore. She placed fifth in the 200 free and eighth in the 100 breast during her rookie season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to Providence College! I’m so thankful to everyone who has helped me in my journey and beyond excited to see what the next four years will bring! #GoFriars”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 56.75
  • 200 back – 2:04.85
  • 200 IM – 2:07.91
  • 400 IM – 4:30.03

Christuk is a huge pickup for the Friars: her best 100 back time would’ve ranked first on the team last season and she’ll join following the graduation of top returning backstroker Juliet McGlaughlin. Her 100 back would’ve scored in the A-final at the 2018 Big East Championships.
