Australia’s Cate Campbell topped a loaded 50-meter free field in prelims finishing with a time of 24.40 to claim the top seed for tonight’s semis. Campbell will have to work to get closer to her 2015 best of 24.03 from BHP Super Series and to keep the competition at bay.

Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of the Bahamas claimed the second place seed with a close 24.43, putting her only .12 seconds off her 2015 best of 24.31 from the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom turned in a 24.53 to claim a spot in the middle of the pool for semis. The Netherland’s Ranomi Kromowidjojo posted a time of 24.62 to grab the fourth-place seed.

The fifth place seed was grabbed by Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark. Ottesen turned in a 24.66, just shy of her 2015 best of 24.47 from the Canet stop of the Mare Nostrum circuit.

Germany’s Dorothea Brandt finished with a 24.71 for the sixth-place seed, while Australia’s Bronte Campbell touched with a 24.74 for the seventh-place seed. A slight slip for Campbell from her 2015 best of 24.19 from the Australian Championships.

Great Britain’s Fran Halsall completes the top eight qualifiers for tonight’s semis with a time of 24.80.

China’s Xiang Liu (24.82), France’s Anna Santamans (24.90), USA’s Simone Manuel (24.91), Canada’s Chantal Van Landeghem (24.94), Brazil’s Etiene Medeiros (24.97), Canada’s Michelle Williams (25.13), Denmark’s Pernille Blume (25.14) and Russia’s Mariia Kameneva (25.18) will also be swimming in semi-finals of the 50 free.
