Carmel High School Wins 23rd Consecutive State Title; Sets Two National Records

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, February 14. CARMEL won their 23rd consecutive state championship, scoring 427 points and setting two national records. Hamilton Southeastern (227) and Homestead (163) took second and third place respectively.

Individual Results
Jessie Hammes, Lauren Stauder, Devon Mason, and Megan Detro set a national public high school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.68, only .05 seconds off the overall record.

Hammes and Detro also won individual events. Hammes won the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.29. Detro, a three-star recruit in the Swimming World College Recruit rankings powered by Take Your Marks, won the 50 freestyle (23.47), touching out Tori Bagan (Homestead) by only .01 seconds.

Senior Logan Mason (Carmel) took first place in the 200 freestyle (1:48.99) while her teammate, Trish Regan, won the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.83. The girls teamed up with Detro and Hammes to set an overall national record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.75).

Noblesville’s Katie Bittner scored 470.05 points to win the diving competition. Madel Miskulin (Valparaiso) took second (466.40) and Kati Grunawalt (Penn) took third (457.20).

Carly Marshall, Rhiannon Sheets, L. Mason, and Regan closed the meet with a state record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.22). The quartet was only 1.12 seconds off the national public high school record.
