NEW COMMIT: Ottawa, Ontario’s Maddy Archer will head to New Mexico for her college career after giving her verbal commitment to the Lobos as a member of the class of 2024.

Archer does her club swimming with Nepean Kanata Barracudas and most recently won the 400m free and took second in the 1500m free at TYR Summer Seniors this past summer after recording three best times at the Ontario Championships. She placed 10th in the mile and 11th in the 800m free at the Canadian Trials in April and earned silver in both of those events at the 2019 Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to be heading to Albuquerque! Coach Keegan and Coach Matt made me feel welcome right away, and once I saw the campus’ facilities and met the girls, I knew it was where I wanted to be! #GoLobos”

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 200m free – 2:06.99
  • 400m free – 4:23.31
  • 800m free – 9:00.23
  • 1500m free – 17:21.05
  • 200m IM – 2:23.47
  • 400m IM – 5:00.91

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 200 free – 1:52.25
  • 500 free – 4:52.80
  • 1000 free – 10:10.45
  • 1650 free – 17:05.43
  • 200 IM – 2:05.82
  • 400 IM – 4:23.59

Archer will add valuable depth to the Lobos’ free and IM groups when she suits up for them at the start of the 2020-21 season. Her best times (converted to yards) would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free and 400 IM at the 2019 Mountain West Conference Championships where New Mexico finished fourth overall in the team standings. She’ll also join Claire Eisele in Albuquerque next fall.
