California Coach Brent Bohlender Honored Once Again
Long-time public high school swimming and water polo coach Brent Bohlender will be honored this weekend by the California Coaches Association in Sacremento, California. Bohlender is the winning-est high school coach in California public high school state history, with an overall record of 1,666-618-3 in his 40 plus years of coaching.
Bohlender was involved with three different public school systems during his coaching career: Beyer, Davis, and Johansen high schools in a career that spanned four different decades. The California Coaches Association recognizes it’s state coaches of the year across every sport at the ceremony, which will also include swim and water polo coach Larry Rogers from Bellarmine Prep.
“Anytime your peers recognize what you’ve done, it’s humbling,” commented Bohlender. “It’s an honor to be in the same class with a lot of coaches from here going back to the ’60s.”
Bohlender was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2001 and the section hall of fame in 2010. During his time at Johansen high school, Bohlender won 128 consecutive matches between 1996-99, including four consecutive Division I titles.
