Cal Women Too Much for ASU

BERKELEY, Calif. January 20. THE sixth-ranked California women's swimming & diving team won 11 out of 16 events to rout visiting Arizona State, 167-90, on Friday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Complex. Golden Bears sophomore Emily Silver won three events, her sister, Cal senior Helen Silver, won twice and Cal won both relays to help improve its record to 7-0 (3-0 Pac-10).

For ASU, sophomore Sarah Fischer (Boulder, Colo.) and senior Kathryn Hennessy (Kansas City, Mo.) finished first and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle respectively. Sophomore Caitlin Andrew (San Antonio, Texas) put forth another solid performance by winning the 100-yard butterfly and finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Freshman diver Erin Hobbs (Calgary, Alberta) recorded season-high scores in winning both the one-meter (280.65) and three-meter diving (281.84) events.
