NEW COMMIT: The Class of 2024 verbal commitments are continuing to trickle in, with the University of California, Berkeley receiving the latest pledge from Carter Lancaster, one of the top recruits in his grade.

He’ll arrive on campus as a member of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2028.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am honored to announce that I will be committing to the University of California Berkeley to continue my academic and swimming career. I would like to thank God, my family, all of my coaches and teammates for helping me on this journey. I would also like to thank the Cal coaches for giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Bears ?

Lancaster now swims for Bolles School Sharks having previously competed for Carmel Swim Club, two of the premier club teams in the country. He most recently placed fourth in the 200m IM and fifth in the 100m back at Cary Futures this past summer. Back in December, he raced to 12th in the 200 IM and 17th in the 400 IM at Juniors East.

His best 200 IM time of  1:46.91 ranked fifth all-time for 15 year old boys, while his best 100m back time of 56.87 ranks 20th in that age group.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:46.91
  • 400 IM – 3:51.08
  • 100 free – 45.68
  • 100 back – 48.88
  • 200 back – 1:46.52
  • 100 breast – 55.89
  • 100 fly – 49.15

Currently a junior at Bolles School, Lancaster was the runner-up in both the 100 back and 200 IM at the Florida 1A State Championships last season. He placed sixth in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 IM as a freshman at the Indiana State Championships while representing Carmel High School.

The Golden Bears and Dave Durden are no stranger to producing successful backstrokers and IMers, so Lancaster is sure to fit in quite nicely. Cal won the 2022 Pac-12 Championship title before winning the NCAA crown, too.

It looks like a great fit for both Lancaster and Cal, as the Golden Bears have been highly successful with IM’ers and backstrokers under head coach Dave Durden.
