Cal Adds Verbals From Gracyn Aquino, Alexa McDevitt To Class of 2025

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has added two more verbal commitments to its loaded Class of 2025: Gracyn Aquino and Alexa McDevitt have both pledged to become Golden Bears.

The will arrive in Berkeley along with Elle ScottElla CosgroveAnnie JiaTeagan O’DellClaire Weinstein and Alex Shackell.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic pursuits at UC Berkeley in 2025! I am thankful to God, my family, coaches and team, who made this dream a reality for me. GO BEARS!”

A sprinter, Aquino trains year-round with Mission Viejo Nadadores and placed third in the 50m free as well as seventh in the 100m free at Carlsbad Sectionals back in March. She also sprinted to 14th in the 50 free at Juniors West last December.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.65
  • 100 free – 50.32
  • 200 free – 1:52.06
  • 100 back – 55.49
  • 200 back – 2:02.26
  • 100 fly – 57.44

A native of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Aquino is a rising senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned silver in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 free at the 2024 CIF State Championships.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m so stoked to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of California, Berkeley!! Thank you to everyone who has helped me through this process; it’s been quite a journey but I am incredibly grateful for all the people I have met along the way. I can’t wait to be a bear!!”

McDevitt trains year-round with Bellevue Club Swim Team and won the 400m IM at Federal Way Sectionals back in March, also earning silver in the 200m IM and 400m free. She raced to eighth in both the 200 free and 400 IM at Juniors West where she also took 11th in the 500 free.

  • 400 IM – 4:14.27
  • 200 IM – 2:00.37
  • 100 free – 50.31
  • 200 free – 1:45.96
  • 500 free – 4:49.53
  • 1650 free – 16:46.04
  • 200 breast – 2:12.82
  • 100 breast – 1:03.17

McDevitt hails from Mercer Island, Washington. She won the 200 free and 500 free at the 2022 Washington 3A State Championships during her freshman year at Mercer Island High School.
