Florida’s Caeleb Dressel, who shocked the swimming community with a pair of NCAA and American records in the 50-yard free yesterday at the 2016 SEC Championships, powered his way to an SEC meet record in the men’s 100-yard fly tonight.

Dressel, who threw down an 18.23 during the 50 free in finals last night, put up a huge 44.80 in the 100-yard fly tonight.  That swim broke Matt Targett’s meet record of 45.02 from 2009.

That’s Dressel’s first time clearing 45 seconds as his previous best was a 45.01 at the Ohio State Invitational last November.

Dressel split the race 20.44, 44.80 (24.36) as he turned nearly a full second ahead of the field.

His time moved him up to 9th all time in the 100-yard fly, just ahead of Marcin Cieslak’s 44.87 from the 2014 NCAA Men’s Championships.

When is this short course season over? He really needs to switch gears to LCM to get ready for trials this summer. He is not a lock even in the 50. It’s a completely different race.
