BYU’s Gary Tan Garners Second MWC “Swimmer of the Week” Award

PROVO, Utah, Feb. 15. BYU junior Gary Tan was nominated Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the
week for the second time in less than a month. Tan has won the award at least once in every season at BYU, making this his fourth selection in his career.

A native of Maryland Park, Singapore, Tan helped the Cougars to a dual meet victory over Utah, winning two
individual titles in events he doesn't usually compete in and contributing to a relay victory. In the 400-yard individual medley, Tan set a pool record with a time of 3:59.82, while winning the 500-yard freestyle in 4:38.32, five seconds ahead of the runner-up. Tan completed the meet by helping the Cougars 200-yard medley relay team to victory, posting a time of 1:32.46.
