NEW COMMIT: San Jose, Calif. native Mikayla Tseng has given an in-state verbal to Loyola Marymount University for the fall of 2019.

Tseng swims year-round for Santa Clara Swim Club and placed seventh in the 200m free, 400m free and 200m fly at Far Westerns to conclude her summer season. She raced two events at the Pacific Senior Open in April and was a four-time finalist at the Phoenix Winter Invite in February. Also competing for Santa Teresa High School, Tseng has competed at the CIF-Central Coast Section Championships the past two seasons.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose LMU simply because it was the perfect fit for me. The beautiful area and the amazing team made me feel like I was at home. LMU encompasses a community of students who strive for excellence. I admire the developmental program that LMU offers for their swimmers. It gives student athletes the opportunity to be well rounded in and out the pool. I cannot wait to represent the Lions at the collegiate level. GO LIONS!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 26.99
  • 100 fly – 57.32
  • 200 fly – 2:06.60
  • 100 free – 53.85

When she suits up for the Lions as a member of the class of 2023, Tseng will add her talents to a fly group that includes Christine Chan and Olivia Nielsen. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 fly and the B-final of the 100 fly at the 2018 PCSC Championships.
