NEW COMMIT: UC-Davis has earned an in-state verbal from Sunnyvale, Calif. butterflyer Ashley Ma who will join the Aggies as a member of the class of 2023.
Ma swims year-round with Santa Clara Swim Club and is the owner of a Winter Juniors cut in the 100 fly. She notched a pair of best times at Santa Clara Futures this summer after placing tenth in the 200m fly at LCM Far Western. She recorded two lifetime bests at Juniors West last winter and took sixth in the 200 fly at SCY Far Westerns in April. Also competing for Fremont High School, Ma placed 11th in the 100 fly during her junior season after placing fifth in the event at CIF-Central Coast Sections a week prior.
She told Swimming World:
“UC Davis has so much to offer in and out of the pool! I loved the team atmosphere, academic opportunities, as well as the amazing coaching staff. I want to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for always supporting me. I can’t wait to be part of the team and am looking forward to the next four years! GO AGS!!”

- 100 fly – 54.99
- 200 fly – 2:06.53
- 50 free – 24.38
- 100 free – 53.71
When she suits up for the Aggies for the 2019-20 season, Ma will add her talents to a fast fly training group that includes Amanda Wilson and Cora McClleland. Her best 100 fly time would’ve scored in the A-final at the 2018 MPSF Championships where UC-Davis finished third overall in the team standings.
