NEW COMMIT: Bucknell University has received their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Noah Basista of Boardman, Ohio.

Primarily a breaststroker, Basista most recently earned 100% best times at Geneva Futures this past summer after placing 18th in the 50m breast at Cleveland Sectionals. At YMCA SCY Nationals in April, he finished 14th in the 100 breast and 15th in the 200 breast. Also competing for Boardman High School, Basista raced to eighth in the 100 breast at the Ohio State Championships during his junior season. He has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Bucknell University. The combination of outstanding academics, great coaches, awesome team atmosphere, and first class facilities made Bucknell feel like home. I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and most of all, my family for always supporting me through my swim journey. I’m excited to join the Herd!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.28
  • 200 breast – 2:04.80
  • 100 fly – 50.53
  • 200 IM – 1:53.97

When he arrives in Lewisburg as a member of the class of 2024, Basista will add his talents to a training group led by current first-years Ryaan Hatoum and George Rump. He would’ve scored in the B-final of both breaststroke events at the 2019 Patriot League Championships where Bucknell finished third overall in the team standings.
