Brooke Carr Named Butler Assistant Coach

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., May 25. BROOKE Carr, who spent three years on the IUPUI swim team, has been named an assistant swimming coach at Butler University, head coach Nichole Ellis announced today. In addition to her training and coaching responsibilities, Carr will assist in recruiting and the team's day-to-day operations.

"Hiring Brooke is one of the best things I have done here for the Butler swimming program," said Ellis, who enters her third season at Butler. "Brooke has a huge passion for the sport of swimming and comes from a background in the sport that will be of great value to the Bulldogs. I am really looking forward to learning from her as I know she is looking forward to growing as a coach alongside me."

Carr came to IUPUI after spending one year at St. Francis (Pa.). The Jacksonville, Fla., native specialized in freestyle and backstroke events with the Jaguars. Carr, a former vice president of the IUPUI Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), represented both IUPUI and the Mid-Continent Conference on the NCAA SAAC committee. She also served on the IUPUI Athletics Board.

Carr also has experience as an instructor at the IU Natatorium Summer Swim Camp and New Palestine High School. From 2000-03, Carr served as coach of the Baymeadows Swim Team.

In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Carr will also head the program's "interest group," helping to generate involvement from alumni, parents and friends of the Butler swimming program.

While Carr will begin her duties at Butler immediately, she will continue to work toward her communication studies degree at IUPUI. She will graduate from IUPUI in December. This will be Carr's first collegiate coaching experience.
