Brett Hawke Registered for Masters Meet as Questions Arise on Eligibility Due to Enhancement Games Ties
Brett Hawke is looking to get back in the pool, but not with the Enhanced Games swim team that he coaches.
Hawke has entered to swim in an upcoming U.S. Masters meet in California and that has raised some questions about whether the U.S. Masters Swimming policy should keep him from competing because of his ties to the Enhanced Gams.
Hawke, 51, is listed as a relay swimmer for the Spartans Masters at the Aqua Knuckles SCM Swim Meet on Nov. 15 in La Canada Flintridge, Calif.
There has been some uproar from some masters swimmers, who have sent out an official protest against Hawke competing because of what they say “presents a profound and irreconcilable conflict of interest with the core tenets of USMS.”
USMS provided this statement to Swimming World:
“U.S. Masters Swimming is aware that Brett Hawke has renewed his membership and entered a sanctioned USMS meet within the past 10 days.
“We’re reviewing this matter in accordance with our established policies and procedures. USMS is dedicated to fair competition and integrity, and all USMS members are required to comply with applicable rules and regulations.”
Hawke does not have a positive doping test, but his involvement in the Enhanced Games has made the issue cloudy.
