NEW COMMIT: Youngstown, Ohio native and Futures qualifier Jared Mindek will head to the Sunshine State for his college career after verbally committing to the University of Tampa beginning in the fall of 2021.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the University of Tampa. I want to thank my family, coaches and friends who have helped me achieve this opportunity. Go Spartans!!”

A talented breaststroker, Mindek trains year-round with Penguin Swimming and most recently won the 100 breast at Lake Erie Seniors last month after earning two best times at the 18&U Winter Championships in December. He also earned gold in the 100m breast at Lake Erie LCM Seniors in July 2019.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.24
  • 200 breast – 2:05.52
  • 200 IM – 1:56.82

Also competing for Howland High School, Mindek is a six-time Ohio State Championship finalist. He won the 100 breast and placed seventh in the 200 IM as a senior while taking third and 14th, respectively, in those events during his junior season.

Mindek will be an immediate contributor for the Spartans when he arrives on campus as a member of the Class of 2025. He would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 breast at the 2020 Sunshine State Conference Championships where Tampa won the team title.
