NEW COMMIT: Boston University has picked up their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Emmaus, Pa. native Michael Iacobelli.

He will suit up for the Terriers as a member of the class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my commitment to Boston University to continue my academic and athletic careers! I am so blessed to have found my home away from home. HUGE thank you’s go out to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for pushing me and believing in me every step of the way. I can’t wait to be a terrier!! #BUSD2025 #goterriers ?⚪️”

A talented IMer and breaststroker, Iacobelli swims year-round with Emmaus Aquatic Club and is a Futures qualifier. He won the 200 IM and 200 breast at the Gator Invitational in December where he also recorded eight additional top-5 finishes. Last summer, he earned five best times at Middle Atlantic LCM Seniors before going on to place fourth in both the 200m IM and 200m breast at Eastern Zone Seniors.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:53.44
  • 400 IM – 4:06.83
  • 100 breast – 58.56
  • 200 breast – 2:07.15

Also competing for Emmaus High School, Iacobelli has competed at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships the last three years. He placed 12th in the 200 IM as a junior while taking 16th in that event during his sophomore season.

Iacobelli will add valuable depth for the Terriers’ roster when he arrives in Boston in the fall of 2021. He is just on the brink of scoring range at the Patriot League Championships but has made consistent improvements each season with a year still to go before entering college.
