NEW COMMIT: Boise State University has earned their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season from Las Vegas, Nevada native and current high school junior Victoria Gutierrez.

A versatile freestyler, Gutierrez does her club swimming with Sandpipers of Nevada and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 200m free. She most recently competed at the Arizona SCY Senior Open where she won the 500 free and mile with three additional top-5 finishes. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American capped off her successful long course season with seven lifetime bests and a gold medal in the 200m free at Western Zone Seniors. Over the past two years, she is a nine-time Nevada State Championship finalist. Also competing for Palo Verde High School, Gutierrez was the 50/100 free runner-up during her sophomore season at the Nevada 4A State meet.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose Boise State University because of the great coaching staff and the amazing team environment they’ve created. I’m excited to be a part of a team that strives to get better everyday both in and out of the pool.”

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 52.06
  • 200 free – 1:50.76
  • 500 free – 4:54.78
  • 1000 free – 10:07.17
  • 1650 free – 16:48.52

Gutierrez will add valuable freestyle depth when she suits up for the Broncos as a member of the class of 2024. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free, C-final of the 200 free and her best mile time would’ve placed in the top-10 at the 2019 Mountain West Championships where Boise State finished third overall in the team standings.
