NEW COMMIT: Glen Allen, Va. native Chris Dalla Valle has verbally declared his intention to swim for Duke University as a member of the class of 2023.

Primarily a distance freestyle and butterflyer, Dalla Valle swims year-round with Nova of Virginia Aquatics and has the Winter Juniors standard or better in five events. He raced three events at Juniors over the summer and posted five top-10 finishes at Virginia Senior LCM Championships. His highest finish at NCSAs in March was a fifth-place showing in the 1000 free and he notched a trio of lifetime bests at Juniors East last winter.

Also represetning JR Tucker High School, Dalla Valle is a four-time Virginia 5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed third in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free during his junior season after finishing 12th and 10th, respectively, in those events as a sophomore.

He told Swimming World:

“Duke has an incredible combination of academics and athletics. The team atmosphere was amazing, and I can’t wait to represent the university as a Blue Devil. Go Blue Devils!”

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:40.66
  • 500 free – 4:32.60
  • 1000 free – 9:13.61
  • 1650 free – 15:50.70
  • 100 fly – 50.92
  • 200 fly – 1:51.26

Although he sits outside of scoring range at the ACC Championships, Dalla Valle will look to translate his summer success with another year of club swimming still to go. When he arrives in Durham next fall, he’ll join a distance free and fly training group that includes Miles Williams and Spencer Lafata.
