Blake Pieroni of the Indiana Hoosiers talked about his surprising win in the 100 free final at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine. Pieroni swam a best time with his 48.0 on Wednesday night and he expressed contentment with that swim and time.

Pieroni also talked about how training with Zach Apple has helped him this summer and why he doesn’t necessarily feel like a seasoned veteran quite yet.

Pieroni also was a little surprised it only took a 48.0 to win the 100 free final. It took a 47 high to win the event last year and the field was stacked enough that it was probably expected by a lot of people in attendance that it would take a much faster time to get on the relay team for Pan Pacs.
