DALLAS, Texas, October 25. A sophomore at Southern Methodist University, Candace Blackman had a perfect weekend and helped the Mustangs to a second consecutive title at the SMU Classic. For her efforts, the sophomore has been named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week. In winning the SMU Classic, Blackman helped her squad edge top-ranked Florida.

On Thursday, Blackman kicked off her weekend in dual-meet action against Florida. While the Gators came out on top during the head-to-head clash, Blackman prevailed in the 100 freestyle (50.31) and 200 free (1:47.43) and helped the Mustangs claim the 400 free relay. Florida earned the dual-meet triumph with a 125-118 decision.

In the SMU Classic, Blackman was even more impressive, as she won the 50 free (23.43), 100 free (50.65) and 200 free (1:47.84). Blackman’s first-place effort in the 100 free featured a win over Dana Vollmer, a 2004 Olympian and gold medalist in the 800 free relay. Adding to her stellar weekend, Blackman guided SMU to victories in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 800 free relay. The team crown was SMU’s sixth in the 12-year history of the event.
