Beatriz Padron, JoJo Randby Lend Verbals to Nebraska for 2021-22 Season

NEW COMMITS: The University of Nebraska, Lincoln has scored two new verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Belen, Costa Rica’s Beatriz Padron as well as in-state native JoJo Randby of Omaha, Neb.

Both swimmers will join backstroke Madi Lloyd on campus as members of the Huskers’ class of 2025.

Padron represented Costa Rica this past summer at the 7th FINA World Junior Championships where her highest finish was a 16th-place semi-finals finish in the 50m fly. While representing Team Costa Rica, she raced both the 50m fly and 100m fly at the 14th FINA SCM World Championships in December 2018. Padron raced to sixth place in the 50m fly at Southern Zone Sectionals last March and was a five-time finalist at the Puerto Rico International Open last spring.

Her best times include (LCM/SCY conversions):

  • 50 fly – 27.52/
  • 100 fly – 1:01.99/
  • 50 free – 26.53/
  • 100 free – 58.27/
  • 200 free –  2:06.55/
  • 100 back – 1:06.62/

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m happy to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I was amazed by the support the university gives student athletes, by how nice the team was when they received me during my visit, and by how attentive coach Pablo and coach Patrick were with me. I’d like to thank my family, my coaches, my club, my school, my friends, and everybody who supported me towards reaching this goal! Very excited for what’s coming!! #GoBigRed #GoHuskers”

JOJO RANDBY

A talented breaststroker, Randby owns a pair of Summer Juniors standards and swims year-round with Greater Omaha Aquatics. This past summer, she grabbed bronze in the 50m breast at Jenks Sectionals and had three top-5 finishes at Columbia Sectionals last March.

A current junior at Omaha Marian High School, Randby is already a four-time Nebraska State Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned silver in both the 50 free and 100 breast as a sophomore while taking fifth in the latter as well as sixth in the 200 IM during her rookie campaign.

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 28.94
  • 100 breast – 1:02.28
  • 200 breast – 2:19.68
  • 200 IM – 2:06.91

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Nebraska. Coach Pablo and Coach Patrick are humble and genuine mentors. The team was so welcoming and encouraging on my visit and we laughed a lot. I’m grateful for my club coaches Tom Beck and Pat DiBaise. Thank you also to Marian High School coach BJ Christiansen.
