NEW COMMIT: Baylor Swim Club teammates Alex Borisov and Heidi Dierig have announced their college choices: Borisov will continue his career at Northwestern University while Dierig has selected the United States Air Force Academy. Both swimmers, who also attend the Baylor School, will suit up for their respective teams in the fall of 2020.

ALEX BORISOV

Primarily a breaststroker and IMer, Borisov owns four Junior National standards and earned four best times at the Atlanta Classic in May where his highest finish was a ninth-place showing in the 200m breast. At NCSAs last winter, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed sixth in the 200 breast, 12th in the 100 breast, 14th in the 200 IM, and 17th in the 400 IM. During his junior year, he earned gold in the 200 IM and was the 100 breast runner-up at the TISCA State Championships.

He told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to Northwestern University! I want to thank all my coaches, family and friends who have supported me along the way and I can’t wait to continue my athletic and academic careers at Northwestern. GO CATS!!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.38
  • 200 breast – 1:58.48
  • 200 IM – 1:50.40
  • 400 IM – 3:54.12
  • 200 fly – 1:49.46

Borisov will add valuable depth to the Wildcats’ breaststroke and IM training groups when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. He would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 breast at the 2019 Big Ten Championships and is just on the brink of scoring range in the 100 breast.

HEIDI DIERIG

Also a talented breaststroker and IMer, Dierig most recently raced five events at Greensboro Futures after recording a best time at the Southeastern LCM Championships this past summer. She notched a trio of lifetime bests at NCSAs last summer and placed fifth in the mile at the Southeastern SCY Championships. She finished ninth in the 200 IM and 11th in the 500 free as a junior at the TISCA State Championships after taking 11th and 12th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m thrilled to announce my commitment to swim and study at the United States Air Force Academy. Thank you to all of my friends, family, mentors, and coaches. This process would not have been possible without them. I am so excited to be a falcon and cannot wait for the future!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:06.45
  • 200 breast – 2:20.69
  • 200 IM – 2:07.91
  • 400 IM – 4:32.29

Dierig will make a huge impact when she suits up for the Falcons at the start of the 2020-21 season. She would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 breast at the 2019 Mountain West Championships and is just shy of scoring range in her other top events.
