NEW COMMIT: Ball State University has scored a verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from in-state freestyler Betsy King of Columbus, Ind.

King swims year-round with Donner Swim Club under head coach Logan Schaefer and most recently raced five events at Indiana LCM Seniors this past summer where she recorded a best time in the 400m free. At Indiana SCY Seniors in March, she recorded a pair of lifetime bests where her highest finish was a 17th-place showing in the 200 free. Also competing for Columbus North High School, Schaefer has competed at the Indiana State Championships during both her sophomore and junior seasons.

She told Swimming World:

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Ball State University!! Special thanks to my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me get to this point of my life! Go Cardinals! #chirpchirp”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.21
  • 100 free – 52.24
  • 200 free – 1:55.96
  • 500 free – 5:10.68
  • 1000 free – 10:50.11
  • 200 IM – 2:13.69

King will add valuable depth when she suits up for the Cardinals as a member of the class of 2024 and will make an impact both individually and on relays. Although she’s not in scoring range just yet at the MAC Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season with a year of club swimming still to go before arriving at Ball State.
