NEW COMMIT: Backstroker Jake DiMartile of Fort Washington, Penn. has handed the University of Wisconsin a verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond. His club teammate and classmate, Elle Braun, has also verbally committed to the Badgers.

DiMartile swims year-round with Upper Dublin Aquatic Club and owns three Winter Juniors standards. He achieved six best times at Middle Atlantic Seniors in March where he earned gold in both backstroke events and was a finalist at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Bloomington. He raced three events at Juniors East in December and finaled in all three backstroke events at NCSAs last summer.

Also competing for Upper Dublin High School, DiMartile has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors and is a five-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. He finished fourth in the 100 back and sixth in the 200 IM as a junior after placing 10th and ninth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Wisconsin. I’d like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for helping me along the way. I’m excited for the next four years! #GoBadgers”

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 23.24
  • 100 back – 49.50
  • 200 back – 1:48.23
  • 200 IM – 1:51.49
  • 400 IM – 3:59.01

DiMartile will add valuable backstroke depth to Wisconsin’s lineup when he arrives in Madison in the fall of 2020 following the graduation of conference 200 back runner-up Cameron Tysoe. Although he’s just outside of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships, he has continuously made improvements each season with over a year to go before suiting up for the Badgers.
