NEW COMMIT: Ohio University has gained their first 2020 verbal commitment from Bridgeville, Pa. native Abbie Duncan who will join the Bobcats as a member of the class of 2024.

Duncan swims year-round with Mount Lebanon Aqua Club and most recently achieved three lifetime bests at Indianapolis Speedo Sectionals. This past summer, she achieved 100% best times at the Eastern Senior Zone Championships where her highest finish was a 12th-place showing in the 100m back.

Also competing for South Fayette Township High School, Duncan is a three-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. She placed sixth in the 100 back and 15th in the 200 free as a junior after finishing 10th in the former event during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Ohio University! I can’t thank my family, friends, and coaches enough for all they have done for me! I can’t wait to see what the future holds! Go Bobcats!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.67
  • 100 back – 55.70
  • 200 back – 2:05.68
  • 100 free – 52.31
  • 200 free – 1:53.88

Duncan will make an immediate impact in the Bobcats’ backstroke training group and will have two years of overlap with Athena Aravantinou, Ohio’s only conference backstroke A-finalist. Duncan would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 back at the 2019 MAC Championships where Ohio finished fifth overall in the team standings.
