NEW COMMIT: Rice University has received their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season from in-state swimmer Sarah Kutz of Austin, Texas.

A versatile swimmer, Kutz does her club swimming with Austin Swim Club and owns a four Winter Juniors time standards. She most recently competed at College Station Speedo Sectionals where she registered a 14th-place showing in the 200 fly after placing 20th in that event at Juniors West. This past summer, she won three gold medals at the Texas Senior Circuit and notched a best time at Austin Speedo Sectionals.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose Rice University because of the amazing combination of academics and athletics in addition to the team’s encouraging atmosphere and phenomenal coaching staff! I could not be more grateful for my friends, family, and Austin Swim Club coaches for supporting me through this process. Can’t wait to be an Owl!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:02.57
  • 400 IM – 4:21.44
  • 100 breast – 1:05.22
  • 200 breast – 2:18.18
  • 100 fly – 55.33
  • 200 fly – 2:00.88

Kutz will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Owls as a member of the class of 2024 as her best times already rank near the top of their lineup. She would’ve scored in the A-final of both IMs and both fly events as well as the 200 breast at the 2019 Conference USA Championships where Rice finished second overall in the team standings.
