Aussie Team Briefed on Safety

By Stephen J. Thomas

SYDNEY, March 30. AUSTRALIAN Swimming tonight outlined the team's travel and security plans on the eve of the team’s departure for the USA on Tuesday.

Australian Swimming Inc. CEO Glenn Tasker and ASI security chief Bob Myers addressed a meeting of swimmers, coaches and parents after the team for the "Duel" Meet had been selected. The parents of all competing swimmers were invited to the hour-long briefing at the Sydney Aquatic Centre, where Australian Swimming staff issued the team with their travel arrangements into Indianapolis for the week-long orientation camp and 'Duel In The Pool' with the USA on April 6.

Bob Myers, the Australian Olympic Committee security consultant, who has been appointed to a similar role within Australian Swimming, addressed the meeting to detail the risk management plan and the security arrangements already put in place.

Mr Myers told the meeting how he and his team were working closely with his United States Olympic Committee security chiefs.

Mr Tasker said: “It was a very detailed overview of the process and the lengths Australian Swimming has gone to, to ensure the safety and well being of this team.

“We wanted to make sure that the parents and the families of all our team members knew exactly what Australian Swimming had put in place. At the end of the meeting, there was not one question asked and the parents left satisfied that we had done and were continuing to do everything in our power to provide the best possible security for their kids.”
