Auburn Women Unveil NCAA Championship Banner

AUBURN, Ala., July 9. THE Auburn women's swim team unveiled its 2002 NCAA Championship banner Tuesday evening from the rafters of James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

The 2002 women's banner joins the men's 1997 and 1999
NCAA Championship banners as well as numerous Southeastern Conference Champion banners.

The group of 11 women became the first Auburn University women's team to win an NCAA team title. The 11 include Jenni Anderson, Maggie Bowen, Demerae Christianson, Eileen Coparropa, Kirsty Coventry, Magda Dyszkiewicz, Margaret Hoelzer, Heather Kemp, Cassidy Maxwell, Becky Short and Laura Swander.

As the team was introduced, the women were presented with their NCAA Championship watches and lined up to watch the banner drop.

Freshman Margaret Hoelzer and junior captain Maggie Bowen represented the team thanking the fans in attendance, as well as the community of Auburn, for their support during the year.

Next season, the Tigers will host the SEC Championships and the Auburn women will host the NCAA Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
