Auburn Tigers Complete Palmetto Weekend Sweep

COLUMBIA, SC, January 9. Auburn reports a second day of Men’s and Women’s sweeps of teams from the Palmetto State of South Carolina, on Saturday beating the University of South Carolina (USC) women 178-75 and their men 172-98 after handling Clemson Friday.

The two teams combined to have the fastest time in 18 different events with Fred Bousquet (100 free * 44.08, 50 fly * 21.70) representing Auburn’s lone double-event winner in individual events. Bousquet also swam on the 200 medley relay that was victorious.

Women that were winners in individual and relay events were Kirsty Coventry (200 medley relay, 400 IM * 4:14.58), Margaret Hoelzer (200 medley relay, 200 back * 1:57.04, 200 free relay) and Jana Kolukanova (200 medley relay, 100 free * 50.97, 200 free relay).

Men that pulled double-duty were Ryan Wochomurka (200 medley relay, 50 free * 19.91, 200 free relay), Sean Osborne (400 IM * 3:59.19, 200 free relay), Joey Schneider (200 back – 1:51.31, 200 free relay) and Kurt Cady (200 medley relay, 200 free relay).

The AU men will return to the pool on Thursday, Jan. 13 when the Tigers welcome Texas to the James E. Martin Aquatics Center. The next women’s meet will be the following Friday against Florida, also at home.
