NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has received another verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from in-state standout Rebekah Hamilton of Huntsville, Ala. Auburn has jumped into the Class of 2025 recruiting game early, also picking up a verbal from Ellie Waldrep.

Hamilton, who owns seven Summer Juniors standards, does her club swimming with Huntsville Swim Association and is a talented freestyler and backstroker. She most recently recorded five top-12 finishes at the Southeastern LCM Championships this past summer. Last winter, she placed eighth in the 100 free at Juniors East before going on to finish sixth in that event at NCSAs.

A current junior at Westminster Christian Academy, Hamilton is already a four-time Alabama State Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned gold medals in the 200 free and 500 free during both her freshman and sophomore seasons. She has been a part of five winning relays and her times in both individual events broke the Class 6A/7A marks.

She told Swimming World:

“Words cannot describe how excited I am to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Auburn University.  I thank God for blessing me with this amazing opportunity and thank you to all my family, friends, and coaches for pushing me and getting me to where I am today.  I can’t wait for this next chapter in my life and to call Auburn home!  War Eagle!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 Free – 22.91
  • 100 Free – 49.33
  • 200 Free – 1:47.97
  • 500 Free – 4:50.74
  • 100 Back – 54.42
  • 200 back – 2:00.17

Even with just under two years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Tigers at the start of the 2020-21 season, Hamilton would’ve scored in the C-final of the 100 free at the 2019 SEC Championships. She’ll add valuable depth to their freestyle training group and will have one year of overlap with Emily Hetzer, Auburn’s top 500 freestyler last season.
