NEW COMMIT: Aldie, Va. native and high school junior Sam Oliver has recently announced his verbal commitment to Auburn University as a member of the class of 2024.

A freestyler who gets faster as the distance gets longer, Oliver swims year-round with Snow Swimming and owns three Summer Juniors standards with the U.S. Open cut in the mile. He achieved 100% best times at Juniors East where he placed sixth in the mile and 14th in the 500 free before going on to take fourth in the 400m free and sixth in the 1500m free at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville.

He also won the 400m/800m/1500m free combo at ISCA Seniors to conclude his long course season this past summer and took 18th in the mile at NCSAs last March. While representing John Champe High School, Oliver is a four-time Virginia State Championship finalist. He won the 500 free and placed tenth in the 200 free during his sophomore season after taking seventh and tenth, respectively, in those events as a freshman.

He told Swimming World:

I am so excited to announce that I will be continuing my education and swim career at Auburn University. The coaches and team were very welcoming and I knew this was the place for me. I can’t wait to be a Tiger and represent the school! WAR EAGLE!”

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:41.82
  • 500 free – 4:27.21
  • 1000 free – 9:26.95
  • 1650 free – 15:17.84

Oliver would’ve placed 22nd in the mile at the 2018 SEC Championships, an event in which Auburn only had one swimmer scorer in. That scorer was eighth-place finisher Josh Dannhauser, whom Oliver will have one year of overlap with when he arrives on campus in the fall of 2020.
