ASCA Looking for Passionate Leaders for 2015 Fellowship Program
The application is now available for the 2015 class of ASCA’s Fellows program.
Each year the American Swimming Coaches Association selects a small group of coaches to serve a year of fellowship working on a mentor-lead project: the Fellows. The program’s aim is to identify and begin educating the future coach-leaders of our sport. As such, ASCA Fellows are typically young coaches with a passionate interest in improving American Swimming.
The fellowship year is a year of education and action. The education portion begins in early September with an intensive “clinic-within-the-clinic” held at the annual ASCA World Clinic.
The action portion of the program consists of working on and completing a project. Each Fellow, under the direction of the ASCA staff and Board of Directors, completes a project during the Fellows year (from the 2015 World Clinic to the 2016 World Clinic).
For 2015, the Fellows will have two project groups: a domestic group and an international group. Project summations for these two groups are:
- Domestic: Identify successful swimming alumni/ae in each state to serve as the initial “Swimmers in Business” advisory network (similar to wrestling). The goal will be to identify a cohort of people who can lend their expertise to mentor coaches and ADs, providing professional guidance to strengthen college swimming and diving programs.
- International: Will work in support of the World Swimming Coaches Association’s efforts to replace FINA with a World Swimming Association. (Warning: this project potentially will place you at odds with your home national federation, with the potential to damage your career in the short-term. Only for the most committed, independent coach-leaders.)
To be considered: Coaches interested in the Fellows 2015 class need to submit an application for the program. The application may be obtained by contacting ASCA staff member Matt Hooper at mhooper@swimmingcoach.org or by phone at 1-800-356-2722. Questions can also be directed to Matt as well.
Application deadline for the 2015 Fellows class is: Thursday, June 25, 2015.
