Army West Point Gets 2021 Verbals from Maddie Clark, Mary Rotenberg, Lauren Wetzel

NEW COMMITS: The United States Military Academy at West Point has picked up a trio of verbal commitments for their growing class of 2025 from Maddie Clark (Bennington, Neb.), Mary Rotenberg (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Lauren Wetzel (Waynesboro, Pa.).

All three talented swimmers will join Meghan ColeSarah Platt, and Rea Smith in West Point at the start of the 2021-22 season.

MADDIE CLARK

She told Swimming World:

“I am so honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the United States Military Academy at West Point! I would like to thank my family, coaches, friends, and teammates for the endless support throughout the years. GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!”

Primarily a backstroker, Clark does her club swimming with Greater Omaha Aquatics and is a Junior National qualifier. She earned a best time at Juniors West in December and registered five top-10 finishes at the Midwestern LCM Championships last summer.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.66
  • 100 back – 55.50
  • 100 fly – 56.38

Also competing for Omaha Marian High School, Clark is a six-time Nebraska State Championship finalist. She finished second in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 back as a junior while taking eighth in the 100 back and 11th in the 200 IM during her sophomore season.

MARY ROTENBERG

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m so proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the United States Military Academy! Thank you so much to everyone who helped me get here! #goarmybeatnavy”

Rotenberg, who swims year-round with Empire Swimming and most recently won two events at the January Jump Start meet after grabbing silver in the 200 back at the MIT Invitational. She raced to sixth place in the 200m back at Geneva Futures last long course season as well.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:06.53
  • 400 IM – 4:27.00
  • 100 back – 56.90
  • 1000 free – 10:20.75

She is also a rising senior at Hackley High School.

LAUREN WETZEL

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am extremely honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the United States Military Academy at West Point! Thank you to my incredible coaches, friends, and family that have supported me throughout this journey. Go Army BEAT NAVY!!!”

Wetzel trains year-round with Monocacy Aquatic Club and registered four top-6 finishes at Maryland Seniors in February after placing ninth in the 200 back at Christiansburg Sectionals in 2019. She achieved three best times at Geneva Futures last summer where she finaled in the 200m back.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.98
  • 100 back – 56.79
  • 200 back – 2:01.13
  • 200 IM – 2:05.33
  • 400 IM – 4:28.60

While competing for Waynesboro Area Senior High School, Wetzel finished 10th in the 200 IM at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships in 2020. She is also a five-time Pennsylvania 3A District 03 Championships, collecting silver in the 200 IM this past season.
