NEW COMMIT: The University of Arkansas has earned their first verbal commitment for the class of 2025 from three-time Summer Juniors qualifier Becca Simpson of Rockwall, Texas.

Primarily a mid-distance freestyler, Simpson does her club swimming with Rockwall Aquatic Center of Excellence and placed fourth in the 400m free and fifth in both the 800m free and 1500m free at Des Moines Futures this past summer. Last winter, she placed 22nd in the 500 free at Juniors West before going on to take 19th in the 800m free at College Station Sectionals.

Also competing for Rockwall High School, Simpson placed eighth in the 200 free at the UIL Texas 6A State Championships during her freshman season. She owns the school record in the 200 free, 500 free, and as a member of the 4×50/4×100 free relays and is a four-time 6A Region 3 Championship finalist.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Arkansas. The coaches and team are amazing, and ticked boxes I didn’t even know I had! I know it is the right place for me to be successful both in and out of water. I can’t wait to be a Razorback!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.03
  • 500 free – 4:52.05
  • 1000 free – 10:12.01
  • 1650 free – 17:16.59
  • 400 IM – 4:29.72

When she arrives in Fayetteville at the start of the 2021-22 season, Simpson will add her talents to a training group led by Alyssa LemonBrittney Pike, and Emma Hultquist. She has made some pretty big improvements over the past two years, dropping six seconds in the 200 free, 11 in the 500 free, 16 in the 1000 free, and 23 seconds in the mile.
