NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has gained a new in-state commitment for the fall of 2019 from Oro Valley, Az. native Wyatt Matson.

Matson does his club swimming with Flying Fish Arizona Swim Team and owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 100 fly. He most recently competed at the Western Zone IMX Xtreme Games in November where he won all of his events and earned a pair of best times. He concluded his long course season with a 17th-place showing in the 200m fly at Santa Clara Futures after placing fourth in both fly events at Arizona LCM Seniors. Also competing for Canyon Del Oro High School, Matson is a seven-time Arizona DII State Championship finalist; most recently placing third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 200 IM during his senior season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to the University of Arizona! I can’t thank my family, coaches, teammates, and friends enough for supporting me through this process.”

His best times include:

  • 50 fly – 23.57
  • 100 fly – 49.86
  • 200 fly – 1:52.93
  • 50 free – 21.05

Matson has made significant improvements over the past three seasons, taking off six seconds from the 100 fly and ten seconds off his 200 fly. When he arrives in Tucson as a member of the class of 2023, he’ll join a fly group led by Noah Reid and Brendan Meyer.
