NEW COMMIT: Arizona State University has really nailed their latest commitment, as the Sun Devils have kept Evan Nail out of Chandler, Az. in-state for the fall of 2022.

He will join Jake Mason, Jonny Kulow and  Parker Reynolds in Tempe as a member of the Sun Devils’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Arizona State University!  I am especially thankful for my family, coaches, friends, and teammates who have always believed and supported me.  A huge thank you to Coach Bowman and Coach Behm for this amazing opportunity! Forks Up!”

Nail trains year-round with Rio Salado Swim Club and earned 100% best times at the 18&U Spring Cup in Des Moines back in April after placing second in the 200 back at Arizona Seniors in March. He also posted a pair of top-10 finishes at Four Corner Sectionals this past short course season.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:49.74
  • 400 IM – 3:56.88
  • 100 breast – 59.29
  • 200 breast – 2:04.30
  • 100 back – 50.44
  • 200 back – 1:50.33
  • 200 free – 1:41.77
  • 500 free – 4:32.69
  • 1650 free – 16:13.52

A rising senior at Perry High School, Nail won the 200 free and grabbed bronze in the 500 free as a junior at the Arizona DI State Championships. He placed sixth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 500 free during his sophomore season.

Nail has improved tremendously over the past two seasons, dropping 13 seconds in the 200 IM, 21 in the 400 IM, eight in the 100 breast, 13 in the 200 breast, six in the 100 back, 10 in the 200 back/200 free, 19 in the 500 free, and nearly a minute in the mile.

Arizona State is redshirted the 2020-21 season after coming off an unofficial seventh place finish at the 2020 NCAAs before the meet was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
