Arizona High School Swimming: Xavier, Brophy, Catalina Foothills Win at 2004 Nike Invitational; Pursley Stars

TUCSON, AZ October 7. SIX meet records fell last weekend at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center, Tucson, AZ as Xavier, and Brophy won the Women's and Men's titles, while Catalina Foothills was the combined champion, reported Roric Fink of Tucson Ford Aquatics.

There were six new meet records set in the fastest Nike Classic to date, an event pitting the top 5A and 4A squads from around the state.

Xavier led the way with two relays, breaking their two records from last year. Their 200 Medley relay went 1:51.78, while their 200 Free relay went 1:39.73.

David Pursley had an outstanding 200 Freestyle going 1:41.94, breaking Tyler Deberry's swim from 2001. Josh Arreguin and Matt Barnard both broke their own records from last year. Josh broke the 100 Breaststroke going 59.52, while Matt broke his 100 Free going 47.55.

The final record was Broken by Ellie Doran who took over seven seconds off Abbey McIntosh's 500 freestyle record from 2001. Doran, fresh off her win last month in the 74th edition of the La Jolla Rough Water Swim, had 5:02.20 for her victory.
