Arizona Gets 2022 Verbal from Three-Time Nebraska State Champion Tommy Palmer

NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has received their second verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Tommy Palmer of Lincoln, Neb.

He will join Billy Oates of Gig Harbor, Wash. as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona!  I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates who have supported me along the way.  Go Wildcats!!!”

Palmer, who trains year-round with Lincoln Select Swimming, earned a pair of best times at Lee’s Summit 18&U Winter Championships in December where he won the 50 free and took third in the 100 free. He raced three events at Juniors West in 2019 and was the 100m free champion at the Midwestern LCM Championships that summer.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.23
  • 100 free – 44.97
  • 200 free – 1:39.31
  • 500 free – 4:36.30
  • 100 fly – 49.27

Currently a junior at Lincoln Southwest High School, Palmer is a four-time individual Nebraska State Championship finalist. He won the 50/100 free as a sophomore while taking first in the 200 free and second in the 200 free during his freshman season.

He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts in the pool and in the classroom.

The Wildcats finished second at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships behind 2019 NCAA champions Cal. They were the runners-up with 578 points to edge out Stanford (573) and Arizona State (566).
