NEW COMMIT: Flint, Michigan native and Sectional Championship qualifier Anessa Hanson has announced her verbal commitment to Niagara University beginning in the fall of 2022.

She told Swimming World:

“So beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to Niagara University, to further my academic and athletic careers! Thank you to my coaches for always pushing me to do my best, the parents for always cheering me on (whether it be through the Elkhart YouTube or up in the stands), and especially my teammates for being my family these past 13 years!! Go Purple Eagles eagles eagle”

A versatile swimmer, Hanson trains year-round with OLY Swimming and most recently earned a best time at Indianapolis Sectionals in March after placing ninth in the 200 breast at the OLY Winter Championships. In July 2019, she finished 13th in the 50m back and 14th in the 200m breast at the Michigan 13-14 Championships.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 58.24
  • 200 back – 2:07.48
  • 50 free – 25.49
  • 100 free – 55.62
  • 100 breast – 1:08.29
  • 200 breast – 2:26.20
  • 200 IM – 2:10.07
  • 400 IM – 4:41.97

Hanson will add valuable depth in a number of different events when she arrives on campus as a member of the Class of 2026, and she would’ve placed in the top-10 in several races at last year’s conference meet. Under head coach Eric Bugby, the Purple Eagles finished third at the 2021 MAAC Championships.
