American Women Place 2nd & 4th at ITU World Triathlon Championships

QUEENSTOWN, NZ – Emma Snowsill of Australia ran away from the lead pack of 8 women off the bike to win the 2003 ITU World Triathlon Championships in Queenstown, New Zealand. The American women played a significant roll in how the race progressed as Barb Linquist and Sheila Taormina emerged 1-2 from the swim with a 45 second lead. They were caught during the first of 8 laps by several others including eventual winner Snowsill, Michellie Jones, and American Becky Gibbs. The group came off the bike with about a 2 minute lead over the large chase group of over 20 athletes.
